On the Edge of the Horizon

You hold a light in the darkness

Though not completely whole

Sometimes you cannot tell who

Came from the shadows and stole

Away, your precious light,

Leaving you only half full

With darkness, combating; a fight

‘Tween you and yourself, a null

And void choice, in terms of love

Which is never a choice at all

Whether winter or fall

Without cover or shame, stand tall

Forget not seals, both on and holding, a ball

And learn that yours is no act

You are not balancing yourself and another

Rather it is yourself you must hold fast

Against those who would steal from

You, and hurry on

Or stand and watch from afar

Neither aiding nor committing nor

Choosing, to love or to not

The choice is yours I say

To love oneself undercuts the sway

Of another’s hold on your heart

It may not be easy, but it is a start.

Here comes my first reblog on my second site. My friend Ruth’s darkness is pure light for me. If you are not familiar with her work, just hit follow, you guys! This poem is very special to me. And so, this reblog is a thank you of sorts to her. May the dark always find light in you.
