The Divergents

An honor to have been mentioned in this manner. But a singular call to all Divergents; speak your mind and your voices shall be heard.
Thank you, brave poet, Amit Rehman.

Dedicated to Ruth P, for kindly endorsing my divergence.

That which made us aliens is hard for some to see,
it shall not be found in our faces, hands or feet,
so if they dissect us and posit us beneath
a powerful microscope, it will be in vain!

No, it is not in our looks, I should warn again
but the way we look at things and ways of the world
and also how it looks back at us, in return –
at our polite but nonetheless incisive words!

Abnegations have no self, Candors cannot lie,
Amities are the friendly folks and Erudites
are shrewd, while Dauntlesses are braver than the rest
but no single faction can claim us, the Divergents!

When cruel sorrows drown us we have the strength to smile
that lets the warm and salty tears flow, in delight!
